I’m a big fan of podcasts. I keep up with somewhere between 10 and 20 of them. There are some that are a staple in my diet: TED talks, Radiolab, The Moth, The Art of Photography, This American Life, Science Magazine, Savage Love, a few from the New Yorker (Fiction, Comment, Out Loud), and a few more from NPR. I usually try out a new one every week, just in case it’s any good. Often I keep giving the same one a try.
Until recently, there was only one photography podcast on my list: the art of photography. Unlike Ted Forbes’ podcast, I find that most of the photography podcasts out there tend to focus on technological aspects, for which I care very little. I’m writing to say I’ve become hooked to three really good audio photography podcasts: LensWork, The Candid Frame, and Thoughts on Photography.
They are each totally different from each other. LensWork is super short, super opinionated, and super sweet. Lots of really good advise. Brooks Jensen is a sharp thinker. The Candid Frame is mostly interviews, much longer, much more diverse. Thoughts on Photography is everywhere, a combination of shorter opinions and longer interviews.
If you are interested in photography (or any other creative process), I highly recommend you give them a try (particularly LensWork). I’ve been listening to them often enough that I started walking to work, instead of biking, just to catch up with their backlogs.
Alas, I find it’s hard to get hooked into a podcast. Chances are high you’ll encounter something you don’t like early on. I think it’s worth sticking around long enough to see the good in them. So - for what it’s worth - instead of linking to the podcast’s site, I’m providing links to an episode I thought was particularly good, in the hopes that it will increase your chances of adopting it.
